About the role

Citizens Advice Hammersmith & Fulham (CAHF), part of the national Citizens Advice network, is a thriving local advice organisation that provides information, advice and casework support to 18,000 local people per year.

CAHF has a long standing relationship with the local Trussell Trust Food Bank which operates out of five venues across the Borough. We are recruiting for an Assessor to deliver assessments at the multiple Food Bank sessions.

Working closely with the food bank staff and volunteers, the successful candidate will be responsible for the triage of food bank service users, providing assessments on the main enquiry areas (including welfare benefits, debt, housing and employment). The Assessor will progress clients as far as possible, issue foodbank vouchers and either book appointments with CAHF advisers or refer to other suitable organisations where appropriate.

The Assessor will be supported by the CAHF supervision staff who will provide daily support and skills needed to achieve Advice certification if desired.

This role requires a passion for helping people to work through many challenging situations.

Applicants must demonstrate the following,

  • An organised focused approach, with the ability to accurately research and record information.

  • Experience of delivering assessments on the main enquiry areas (including welfare benefits, debt, housing and employment).

  • Ability to use sensitive listening and questioning skills to get to the root of the issues and empower clients, whilst maintaining structure and control.

  • Competent IT skills, especially the ability to use databases and navigate websites.

  • Can deliver 22.5 Hours per week - across 5 days per week at Hammersmith and Fulham Food Bank sites
